Please note that the renewal fee payment policy will change on January 1, 2024.
As of January 1, 2024, all candidates applying for registration with the NEB must pay the initial NEB application fee of $780.00. This fee covers NEB registration for a three-year period beginning on the date of payment. To remain active in the program, candidates must renew at the end of the three-year period by paying the $520.00 renewal fee which covers an additional two years of registration. Registration and renewal fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Any fees associated with the NEB process are subject to change. Candidates may renew twice for a total of seven years, during which the entire exam sequence must be completed. Candidates will be notified 60 days prior to their renewal end date by email that further payment is due to remain active in the process.
Files of candidates who do not renew with the NEB will become inactive. An inactive file may be reactivated within two years upon written request by email from the candidate and payment of all past-due renewal fees. Note that the inactive time counts toward the seven-year cycle and it would mean that no additional completion time will be given to candidates with an inactive file. Inactive period(s) cannot be longer than two years from the time of initial registration. Files with two or more years of inactive period(s) will be closed. Future entrance into the NEB process would require a new registration according to guidelines in place at that time.
Candidates enrolled in the NEB exam sequence on or after Jan 1, 2016, must complete all NEB examinations and requirements within seven years of their initial payment for registration in order to successfully complete the certification requirements. Candidates who do not complete the entire NEB exam sequence and requirements within the seven-year period will be required to sign up for a new registration and:
submit new language test scores, if applicable. See Language Proficiency Requirement
submit all required documents for registration. See Document Checklist
successfully complete the BCSE exam again, prior to becoming eligible for the NAVLE, and the PSA and CPE.
submit payment for the initial three years or registration
Candidates who registered with the NEB at any time prior to January 1, 2016, were given a total of seven years from the date of January 1 2016, to complete their certification requirements regardless of when they first applied to the NEB.
Because of the disruption in availability of exam seats during the COVID-19 pandemic, all candidates who were registered by March 26, 2022 received a one-time only, two-year extension to complete their NEB exams.
At any time, a candidate wishing to cease participation in the NEB process and wanting to permanently close their file must fill out the NEB File Closure Request on their NEB Candidate portal. Should candidates, who had closed a file, decide to re-register with the NEB, they will have to wait two years, from the date the file was closed, to submit a new registration application.
