The 2018 edition of the MOA includes a few language clarifying changes as well as the below significant changes:
Equine Practice
EQ03 – Language regarding candidates watch as a group the lame horse trotting was removed (no site was doing that)
EQ03 – Candidates must specifically identify the lame limb for the examiner after observation of movement and prior to use of nerve blocks. Requests for, and results of, nerve blocks can be used by the candidate to affirm that the correct limb was identified or to determine the lame limb.
Surgery
Breaks in asepsis – Candidates will now be allowed a total of 5 breaks in asepsis during the Surgery section, inclusive of both the ‘free’ initial break not identified by the candidate and/or all breaks in aseptic technique self-identified by the candidate. Candidates committing a 6th break in aseptic technique will be dismissed with a fatal flaw from the section. Examiners are to document a running tally with brief description of each break in the assessment sheet. As previously, candidates are only allowed 1 break in asepsis not identified by themselves and committed prior to surgical incision. Candidates committing a second break in asepsis that they do not recognize themselves will still receive a fatal flaw.
